KEVIN SHERIDAN is confident Oxted's Roo Abbott can prevail in his upcoming title bout and has hailed the impact boxing has had in the community.
Abbott faces undefeated Chris Jones for the vacant novice Super Middleweight title in the Queensbury Boxing League on Saturday, November 24.
And boxing trainer and co-founder of Juggernauts Gym in Felbridge, Sheridan, is feeling positive ahead of the bout.
"Roo's got a very good chance. He's going to give it 100 per cent," said Sheridan.
"We have done our research as it is a different fight to his last. We have a game plan and we think we have got him worked out."
The Queensbury Boxing League's 'Edge of Greatness' is set to feature Abbott later this month along with 14 others in a packed schedule, including Gareth Gardner and Lee Cannon.
And Sheridan has hailed the positive atmosphere the league has created in the community.
"It's really doing well for the area," he said.
"We used to fight in rough places but now the league has done a faultless job.
"All the matches are fair and there is security at the venues."
The league has seen a rise in the number of families attending, replacing the old stigma that used to be associated with boxing such as the rough crowds and intimidating venues.
Sheridan also praised Gardner for his active role in the community: "Being a champion, he is a real gentleman, a real credit to the gym."
He described how Gardner always makes time to help out and encourage kids, while also engaging in charity work wherever possible.
The Juggernauts Gym opened in 2009 and was founded by Sheridan and Tom Sibley, and the owners believe it is going from strength to strength.
"It's going brilliantly at the moment," said Sheridan.
"The gym has a real family atmosphere to it and we're all part of the team.
"We spend a lot of time with the fighters training from Monday to Thursday at night, but it's really rewarding to see them do well."
Abbott's fight takes place at the Effingham Park Hotel in Copthorne on November 24.
