IF YOU want the recipe for romance this Valentine's Day then start by booking a table at one the stunning restaurants in and around Surrey.

From fine-dining destinations to gastro pubs, the county and surrounding area has a wide range of eateries with all the ingredients to ensure love is in the air on February 14.

One place guaranteed to set the heart racing is the incredible Pennyhill Park Hotel, which is offering a decadent package that combines a luxury suite, two hours of spa treatments and a sumptuous 10-course taster menu cooked by double Michelin-starred chef Michael Wignall.

Across the county border into Kingston, you can sample award-winning vegetarian dishes at the Riverside Vegetaria, you could go for the seductive seafood at the three Loch Fyne restaurants in Surrey, or perhaps the Massala in Cobham, one of the three best Indian restaurants in the UK.

A venue offering an array of Valentine's experiences under one roof is the breathtaking Bingham Hotel and Restaurant, over the county border in Richmond.

    The recently refurbished Grade II-listed former coaching inn is offering an intoxicating mix of classic dishes and modern flavours this Valentine's Day. Kicking off with a glass of Champagne on arrival, you will be treated to a three-course menu playfully renamed to reflect the occasion with 'first date' replacing starters and 'the marriage' taking the place of desserts. The food itself includes scallops with parsnip puree and a red pepper compote and lemon sole in a cream and white wine sauce and but it is the trio of tempting desserts that are set to really get the heart beating faster. They include chocolate and hazelnut roulade, lemon mousse and iced chocolate balls filled with lemon sorbet, strawberry and vanilla ice cream.

  4. Loch Fyne in Guildford, Farnham, Cobham or Egham

    If your partner is a seafood lover then a Valentine's visit to one of Loch Fyne's Surrey restaurants is sure to net you a few brownie points. To mark the special occasion the chain has come up with a four-course menu full of fantastic fishy dishes. They include the pulse-raising starter of oysters prepared in three ways, lobster bisque and whole grilled lemon sole. There are also a number of non-fish dishes and an exciting range of Valentine's cocktails.

    Named as the third best Indian restaurant in the UK in the 2012 Cobra Good Curry Guide, it offers authentic dishes from a variety of regions, taking you on a gastronomic journey through India. On February 14 Massala is serving its usual menu, which includes a taster menu for two people - perfect for a Valentine's date. It includes an array of delicious dishes, ranging from the classic lamb rogan josh to the more unusual monkfish Malabar. The menu also features head chef Sunil's famous dal makhani, which won the best signature dish award at the 2011 National Curry Awards.

  6. Boathouse Restaurant, Chertsey

    Try: Corn-fed chicken with Lyonaise potatoes and a mushroom sauce.

    Located on the edge of the River Thames, The Boathouse offers a picturesque place to celebrate St Valentine's Day. Starting with a glass of bubbly, the restaurant is serving up a stunning three-course menu that includes an eclectic selection of dishes from seafood tagliatelle to cheese soufflé and lamb cutlets.     This popular gastro pub is pulling out all the stops for Valentine's Day with a fabulous three-course menu.

    Starters of sticky ribs and lamb koftas and Greek mezze-style plate are designed for sharing and there are plenty more of other dishes to get you hot under the collar. They include mains that offer modern takes on classics and deliciously indulgent desserts. Those with a sweet tooth are in for a treat with dulche de leche and caramelised banana pudding and malted milk panacotta with plum compote and raspberry and chocolate ganache.

    If you are struggling to find somewhere suitably special to take your vegetarian Valentine then look no further. The Kingston venue was crowned as Britain's 'Best Vegetarian Restaurant' by the Vegetarian Society and offers a simply stunning non-meat menu. On February 14 it is offering a specially created three-course menu, featuring delicious veggie dishes including organic falafels, tofu and vegetables in a coconut sauce and aubergine and spinach gratin. The dishes are all suitable for vegans and the vast majority are also wheat free.

  10. Silvermere Inn on the Lake, Cobham

    Valentine's Day: Three-course menu and glass of sparkling wine

    Price: £39.95 per couple

    Try: Pan seared salmon on a wild mushroom risotto with roasted root vegetables and a garlic cream sauce.

    Looking out over water and golf course, the Silvermere Inn on the Lake offers a pleasant Valentine's destination. On February 14 guests will be treated to glass of sparkling wine and a three-course menu combining traditional and modern dishes. Highlights include seared tiger prawns, a beef and ale pie and the devilish dessert of baked vanilla cheesecake in a rich chocolate sauce. At just £39.95 for two it is also one of the best value Valentine's dining options anywhere in the county.
