A police spokeswoman said: “The preliminary results from the post mortem examination indicate that he died as a result of a wound to the neck.”

She said Breck’s family are being supported by police family liaison officers.

His death has devastated his family and friends.

One relative, commenting on image sharing website Imgur said: "He was an incredibly smart, funny and cute boy."

A RIP Breck Bednar page on Facebook had 267 members by yesterday morning.

One friend Samuel McCarthy-King wrote: “I will always remember the good times we had playing i-Phone games and eating pizza.

“I could always come to you when I was down.

“You were my best mate but it was a shame that we have not been talking much lately.”

Some of his friends have suggested that a launch of balloons in his memory should be carried out at Priory Park in Reigate - but others have said it is premature while emotions are so raw.
