Trains through Redhill severely disrupted after person killed by train at Purley

Trains through Redhill were severely disrupted this afternoon after a person was hit and killed by a train at Purley station.

No trains were calling at Purley station and services between East Croydon and Redhill, as well as those to Gatwick and Crawley, were severely disrupted.

The train operator has said the incident happened at about 12.10pm and the victim, a woman, sadly died at the scene.

The train involved was the 11.39am Southern Rail London Victoria service to Tonbridge. Purley station was closed to passengers while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Two lines were kept open, but the other four were blocked.
